Broadcast Journalism Reflection
Over the course of this year I have learned so much about editing and producing stories for our show Wildcat Weekly. I've learned how to color grade footage and change the IRIS and white balance on the camera in order to make the footage not look over exposed and make the white objects in the frame actually look white even if the lighting in the room does not allow for that. Since the beginning of this year my stories have gotten much better than the first ones I created. One of the unique projects we were assigned for this class was Catwalking story. It was super fun because my partner and I got to fulfill Senior's wishes and we got to go to different areas of the school that we had never been before like Lake Birkett where my partner Cate's sister got to kayak in the lake. Something that held me back this year was my fear of taking risks with my stories was getting creative shots. If I had taken this risk I would have been able to add a production element to them that made them more visually pleasing and fun to watch.
I have done lots of assignments in this class, but my favorite assignment was hosting and producing the senior show. Ever since freshmen year I've always wanted to be a coordinating producer of Wildcat Weekly and even though I'm a TV 2 I finally got the chance to do it when my name was one of the last the two that was picked to be a host/producer of the first senior show. I didn't realize how much goes into producing an episode of Wildcat Weekly and all the planning and communication it requires. Overall I think that Hannah and I did a pretty good job producing it and I was very proud of how it turned out. In the future I am going to be majoring in Business and minoring in Communications. I am so thankful for the opportunities this class has given me and I know that I will be able to take what I've learned from this class and apply it to other classes in the future.
